Callans 14 K's Sets New School Mark as Saints Sweep Fontbonne

St. Louis – Alyssa Callans set a new school record for strikeouts in a single game with 14 K's to pace the Maryville University softball team to a sweep of Fontbonne Tuesday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints needed a late inning home run and Callans pitching performance to win the first game of the day, 1-0. Maryville then scattered 12 hits in the nightcap to defeat the Griffins 5-0 to claim their fifth straight victory.

Game One:
After the two teams were locked in a pitcher's duel between Callans and Diamond Thomas for the Griffins for four innings, the Saints broke through in the fifth. Bri Livingston gave the Saints the lead with her fifth home run of the season over the right field wall that gave Maryville a 1-0 advantage. That is all the Saints needed as Callans tossed a three-hitter and struck out  a career-high 14 Griffins to earn her fourth win of the year.
