St. Louis – The Maryville University softball team needed a late inning rally in the first game of the day against Upper Iowa and then received another outstanding pitching performance from
Alyssa Callans to earn a sweep of the Peacocks Thursday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints scored twice in the seventh to force extra innings and scored two more runs in the eighth to win the opener 9-8. Callans surrendered six hits in the nightcap to aid Maryville to a 5-1 win as it extends their winning streak to seven games.
Game One:
The Saints took the early lead in the first as they sent nine batter to the plate and scored four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead.
Bri Livingston hit an RBI single while
DJ Aaron-Holman smacked a two-run single up the middle to highlight the inning. The Peacocks scored six runs over the next three innings to grab a 6-4 advantage. Maryville cut the Upper Iowa lead to a run in the fifth as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis doubled and scored on an Callans single to make the score 6-5. After Upper Iowa added a run in the top of the seventh, the Saints rallied to tie the game as Livingston and Pasakarnis each hit RBI singles to tie the game at 7-7. The Peacocks grabbed the lead in the extra frame, but
Carly Wilson gave Maryville the walk-off win with a two-run single to right center to complete the comeback.

Game Two:
After a quiet first two innings, Pasakarnis put the Saints on the scoreboard with a two-run blast over the left field wall to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Upper Iowa cut the lead in half in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left field, but the Saints added insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.
Emily Bruin drilled a double down the left field line to drive in a run and Livingston capped off the inning with a two-run single to extend the Maryville lead to 5-1. The Peacocks tried to put together a rally of their own in the seventh as they had runners at second and third, but Callans slammed the door shut with her seventh strikeout of the day to earn her fifth win of the year.
