What Happened
The Tritons shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and moved out to a 44-32 lead at the break. UMSL took its largest lead at 15 but
Jerome Davis sank two free throws, and
Eugene Jones grabbed an offensive board for a put back to pull the Saints to 47-36. Maryville kept UMSL from pulling away and were only down 63-51 before making a run.
Â
Davis started the burst with a free throw, and Glotta drained a deep 3-pointer. Jones came up with a steal and fed Davis for a bucket. His free throw to complete the three-point play pulled the Saints to 63-58. The defense made a stop, and
Zach Colletta's three-point play chopped the UMSL down to 63-61 with 6:58 to play. The Tritons scored six straight to extend the margin to 69-61. A
Robin Thompson bucket made it 71-64. UMSL notched two consecutive buckets before a Glotta's eighth triple trimmed the deficit to 75-67 in the final minute. However, the Saints were unable to pull any closer down the stretch.
Â
Thompson hauled down a season-high 11 rebounds, while Jones matched his career best with five steals. Davis finished with 15 points to tie his highest output in a GLVC game this season and his second best outing of the year.
