Saints Baseball Falls to Illinois-Springfield 9-5

Springfield, Ill. – The Maryville University baseball team could not avoid a couple big innings as the Saints fell to Illinois-Springfield 9-5 Friday afternoon at UIS Baseball Field in Springfield, Ill. 
 
Game One:
The Saints opened the scoring in the first as Dominic Connolly lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Drake Lubin to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Prairie Stars tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a run to make the score 1-1. Cody Klotz gave the Saints the lead right back in the second with a solo shot to right field to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage. UIS regained the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs to take a 3-2 advantage, but the Saints answered in the fourth as Wyatt Elbe ripped an RBI single to tie the game once again at 3-3. The Prairie Stars regained the lead with three runs in the fifth inning to grab a 6-3 lead. Illinois-Springfield tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 7-3. The Saints cut into the deficit in the eighth as Camden Mercier laced a single to make the score 7-4, but UIS answered with two runs in their half of the inning to take a 9-4 advantage.
