Callans Paces Saints to a Sweep of Bellarmine

St. Louis – Alyssa Callans pounded out four hits and drove in a pair of runs, including the game winner in the opener, to lead the Maryville University softball team to a sweep of Bellarmine Friday evening at Weber Field. Callans late game heroics helped the Saints to a 3-2 win in nine innings to start the day off. The Saints scored early in the nightcap and held on to earn a 4-2 win to improve their record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference to 5-1.

Game One:
After the two team's played to a scoreless tie through four innings, the Saints cracked the scoreboard in the fifth as Hannah Tolley laced an RBI single up the middle to score Samantha Hausl and give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Knights took the lead in the sixth after scoring a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead, but the Saints evened the game in their half of the inning as Alyssa Callans smashed a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the game at 2-2. The game remained tied until the ninth inning as Callans ripped a single in the gap in right center field to score Bri Livingston and give Maryville the extra innings win.
