St. Louis – The Maryville University softball team fell behind early in both games against Southern Indiana only to see a pair of late inning rallies fall short as the Screaming Eagles earned a sweep of the Saints Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. Southern Indiana scored twice in the third and held on to win the opener, 2-0. In the nightcap, the Screaming Eagles scored a run in the fourth and again held on to defeat the Saints, 1-0.
Game One:
The Screaming Eagles grabbed the lead in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Maryville stranded two runners in the home half of the fourth as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis and
Alyssa Callans each singled, but Southern Indiana got out of the inning with a fly out and groundout to maintain the lead. The Saints had one more chance in the seventh as
DJ Aaron-Holman doubled with two-outs and
Shaina Kmetz drew a walk to once again put runner at first and second, but the Screaming Eagles forced a fly out to deep left field to earn the victory.

Game Two:
Southern Indiana broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a run to grab a 1-0 lead, but the Saints had a couple chances in the late innings. In the sixth inning,
Bri Livingston singled and moved to third on a Pasakarnis double to put runners at second and third, but the Screaming Eagles got out of the inning with a pair of flyouts. The Saints had one more chance in the seventh as
Samantha Hausl doubled with one out, but Southern Indiana slammed the door shut with a another fly out and a strikeout to end the game and earn the sweep.
