Big Second Half Pushes Northern Michigan Past Saints Women's Lacrosse

Northern Michigan used a strong second half to defeat the Maryville women's lacrosse team Sunday morning 14-8. Claire Martin tallied twice for the Saints, while Addison Devers had one goal and two assists to top Maryville in points with three.
 
NMU registered the first two goals of the game before Haley Downs put the Saints on the board seven minutes into the tilt. Lexi Taylor tied the score at 2-2 with her first goal of the year less than two minutes later. The Wildcats rebuilt a two-score edge but Madeline Heintz notched her first of the season to bring the Saints to 4-3. The teams traded goals with Bri Laster tallying on a free-position shot. Trailing 6-4, the Saints accounted for the final two scores of the half. Martin brought Maryville to within one, and Devers tied the game 6-6.
 
However, NMU scored the first two goals after halftime and kept the Saints off the board for over 26 minutes. Martin tallied the first score in the second half, and Madison Christiansen fired in a goal in the waning seconds for Maryville's eight of the game.
 
The Saints are 1-7 on the season, 0-5 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan ups its mark to 2-6overall, 1-3 in the conference. The Saints close a five-game homestand Wednesday when they welcome McKendree to Maryville Field in a 5 p.m. clash.
