Haley Downs scored with 1:44 left to give the Maryville women's lacrosse team a thrilling 10-9 victory over Lewis Friday afternoon. The win is the first for the Saints in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Maryville rallied from a 7-4 halftime deficit to pick up its second win of the season.

Lewis built a 6-2 lead before
Claire Martin and
Addison Devers notched goals for the Saints. Lewis scored in the final minute of the first half for a 7-4 edge. Martin tallied at the 23:35 mark of the first half, and again 85 seconds later to pull the Saints to within 7-6.
Bri Laster fired in a goal to tie the game at 7-all with 19:01 to play.
Alexis Roe scored to push the Saints ahead 8-7, their first of the game.

The Flyers pulled even with 12:28 to go but
Lexi Taylor scored with exactly nine minutes left to another lead at 9-8. Lewis again deadlocked the game at 9-9 before the late-game drama. Lewis forced a Maryville turnover but the Saints came right back to force their own turnover. Downs picked up the errant ball and fired it into the net for the game-winning score. Both teams picked up the defensive intensity in the waning moments but the Saints kept Lewis out of the offensive end to preserve the victory.

Tabatha Saake came up with a season-high 16 saves to record the win. Laster scored twice to support Martin's hat trick. Downs led the Saints with one goal and three assists for four points on the day.
The Saints scored in double figures for the second straight game.

The Saints improve to 2-12 on the season, 1-10 in the GLIAC. Lewis is 1-7 overall, 1-6 in the league. Maryville closes the regular season Sunday, April 28, with a game at McKendree.
