Quincy, Ill. –  The Maryville University baseball team extended their winning streak to six games with a sweep of No. 7 Quincy University in a non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon at QU Stadium in Quincy, Ill. The Saints scored two runs in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie to defeat the Hawks 5-4 in the opener. Louis Niemerg hit a pair of two-run home runs to power Maryville to a 9-3 victory in the nightcap. This is the second time this year that the Saints have defeated a ranked opponent.

Game One:
Cody Klotz opened the scoring for the Saints in the top of the first with a two-run blast over the right field wall to give Maryville an early 2-0 lead. The Saints regained the lead in the second as Derek Renner blasted his second home run of the year to put Maryville ahead 3-2. Quincy once again evened the game in the fourth with a run on two hits to knot the game at 3-3. The score remained tied until the seventh as Daniel Covert opened the inning by getting hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double down the left field line by Dominic Connolly. Covert and Connolly both scored on consecutive groundouts to push the Saints ahead 5-3. The Hawks cut the lead in half in the home half of the seventh with a run to make the score 5-4.
