Despite three goals apiece from
Bri Laster and
Claire Martin, the Maryville women's lacrosse team's furious second-half rally just fell short as Ashland held on for an 11-10 win over the Saints. The Saints scored six straight goals over the final 18 minutes but were unable to force overtime.

Ashland built a 4-0 lead before
Addison Devers scored two straight for the Saints. The Eagles went back up 6-2 before Martin tallied her first of the day. The Saints were down 7-3 at halftime.

In the second half, Martin tallied on a free-position shot to bring the Saints to 7-4 but Ashland built an 11-4 lead. Laster converted on a free-position shot with 18:23 to play to ignite the big rally for Maryville.
Haley Downs scored two minutes players, and Martin completed a hat trick at the 13:58 mark to bring the Saints to 11-7. Laster fired in her second goal of the day and finished her hat trick with 1:38 remaining.
Kendall Werkmeister scored on another free-position shot with 57 seconds to play as the Saints drew to 11-10. However, Ashland won the subsequent draw and the Saints could not pull level.

Tabatha Saake recorded 13 saves, including eight in the first half. Devers had two goals and one assist as the Saints reached double figures in scoring for the second time this season.

The Saints are now 1-12 on the season, 0-10 in the GLIAC. Ashland improves to 3-6 on the year, 2-4 in conference play. Maryville hosts its final home game of the season Friday, April 12, as Lewis visits for a 5 p.m. contest.
