UMSL recap
Maryville was looking to win its second straight game and snap UMSL's long win streak but the Tritons continued the best start in program history and eased to an 83-58 decision Thursday evening at the Mark Twain Building.
Jalen Gant paced the Saints with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Maryville drained 10 3-pointers but the Tritons nailed half of their shots from the field to key their attack. The Saints tied a school record for fewest turnovers committed in a game with just five, including only one in the second half.

What Happened
Jalen Gant hit a wing jumper, and Park Long drilled a long 3-pointer from the top of the key to stake the Saints to a 5-4 lead.
Dezmond McDaniel found the range from deep as Maryville jumped ahead 8-6 four minutes into the contest. The Tritons moved ahead, and
Zach Colletta found the bottom of the next from beyond the arc to trim the UMSL lead to 16-13. The home side reeled off a 13-0 burst to take the advantage. Colletta ended the Maryville drought with yet another 3-pointer. However, the Saints only scored two more points the rest of the half as UMSL stretched its cushion to more than 20 points. Maryville didn't allow USML to score the final 2:12 of the half but could only trim two points off the deficit.

In the second half, the Saints used an 8-2 burst to cut into the UMSL lead. Maryville received a layup from Gant and a 3-pointer from McDaniel. McDaniel finished with 14 points, tied his career best with four 3-pointers and led the team with a career-high six rebounds.
