Rockhurst recap
Back on the road for the first time in three weeks, the Maryville men's basketball team stayed in the hunt at Rockhurst before the Hawks pulled away late to beat the Saints 65-50 Saturday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.
Dezmond McDaniel, a Kansas City native, paced the Saints with 12 points and two steals.

What Happened
Three Saints from the Kansas City area were in the starting lineup, and the trio boosted Maryville to an early lead. McDaniel hit a 3-pointer to put the Saints on top 14-12 seven minutes into the game. The Hawks went on an 8-0 run to jump ahead before
Chris White knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to pull Maryville to within 21-17.
Chris White had a three-point play, and
Ross Ryan's jumper cut Rockhurst's lead to 30-26 at intermission.

To open the second half,
Jalen Gant hit a jumper, and McDaniel's three-point play put the Saints ahead 31-30. The teams traded points as McDaniel's score kept Maryville down just one at 38-37. The Saints were still trailing by seven but made three free throws to pull to within 44-40 with 12 minutes to play. Maryville stayed within striking range as
Parker Long's jumper cut the Rockhurst edge down to 51-46 at the 8:01 mark. However, the Hawks went on a 10-0 burst to grab control late.

McDaniel hit half of his 10 shots to lead the Saints with 12 points and two steals.
Parker Long added 10 points, while Gant recorded a team-high eight rebounds.
