Jansen and Mussorici Shoot Saints Past Lindenwood 79-67

Antoinette Mussorici tallied 25 points and Jayda Jansen scored 20 as the Maryville women's basketball squad stayed unbeaten with a 79-67 victory over Lindenwood. The Saints defense forced the Lady Lions into 26 turnovers, the second straight opponent Maryville has turned over at least 20 times. Hunter Stidham had 12 points, while Donnetta Colbert hauled down a career-high nine rebounds.
 
What Happened
The game was tied at 19-19 after the first quarter before Rylee Mulvaney grabbed an offensive rebounds and had a put back to push the Saints ahead. She followed with a steal and layup, and Mussorici sank two free throws for a 24-19 lead. Maryville pushed the edge to as much as 32-24 before settling for a 39-34 margin at halftime.
 
Lindenwood used a push in the third quarter and eventually took the lead. The visitors were up 51-50 but Mussorici made two free throws and Jansen splashed in a triple for a 54-51 advantage. The Saints took a 56-55 lead into the final quarter. Jansen hit two consecutive jumpers as Maryville's margin morphed to 60-55. Lindenwood tied the game at 61-61 but Colbert hit her only field goal of the game, a 3-pointer, for a 64-61 lead at the 7:12 mark. Lindenwood got as close as 67-66 before the Saints used a 12-1 run to close the game. Stidham hit a long jumper, and Mussorici converted a driving layup. A runner in the lane by Jansen was good for a 73-66 lead with two minutes left. Colbert drilled two free throws for a 75-66 lead with 49 ticks to go, and the Saints hit four straight free throws to put the game away.
