Bentonville, Ark. – The Maryville softball team earned a split on the first day of the Alvy Early Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Saints pounded out 10 hits while getting an outstanding pitching performance from
Alyssa Callans to defeat Pittsburg State 8-0 in five innings to take the opener. Washburn rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh to upend Maryville 6-5 in the nightcap.
Game One vs. Pittsburg State:
The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the second as
Lexi Touchette hit an RBI double to drive in
Shaina Kmetz and give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
The offense continued to produce in the top of the third with
Samantha Hausl and Callans hitting back-to-back RBI singles while
Emily Frankenreiter added a sacrifice fly to score Hausl and Callans scored on a throwing error on the play to put Maryville on top 5-0.
The Saints added three more runs in the fourth as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis hit an RBI single and Kmetz added a two-run double to give Maryville an 8-0 advantage.
Callans tossed a one-hitter while striking out 11 batters to earn her second victory of the season.

Game Two vs. Washburn:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the first frame as Pasakarnis ripped a two run inside the park homer to give Maryville a 2-0 lead.
Emily Bruin added to the lead in the second with an RBI double to left and then scored on a throwing error to put the Saints on top 4-0. Bruin extended the Maryville lead in the third with her second RBI double of the game to make the score 5-0.
Washburn rallied in the top of the seventh with six runs to take the lead and held the Saints in the home half of the inning to claim the victory.
