Callans and Hausl Aid Saints In Split at the Alvy Early Classic

Bentonville, Ark. – After being held to only two hits in the opening game of the day, the Maryville softball team ripped four extra-base hits in the nightcap to earn a split in the final day of the Alvy Early Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Saints dropped the opening game of the day to Southern Arkansas 5-0. In the nightcap, Alyssa Callans provided the spark, both in the circle and at the plate, as the Saints defeated Northwest Missouri State 9-1 in five innings.

Game One vs. Southern Arkansas:
After a quiet first two innings of play, Southern Arkansas grabbed the lead with three runs in the third frame on three singles as the Muleriders grabbed a 3-0 lead. Southern Arkansas added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth frame to extend the lead to 5-0.

After being no-hit through six innings, the Saints tried to rally in the seventh as Samantha Hausl and Alyssa Callans each singled in the frame to put runners on first and second with two outs, but the Southern Arkansas forced a pop-up to the catcher to end the game.

Taylor Duff opened the inning with a single and scored on a throwing error to give Maryville a 4-0 lead. After Emily Frankenreiter hit an RBI single, Hausl laced a bases-loaded double into the left center field gap to score two more runs and extend the lead to 7-0. Callans drove in her third run of the day with a double to center to make the score 8-0. The Saints added one more run in the frame to extend the lead to 9-0.
