Bruin and Pasakarnis Lead Saints to a Pair of Wins at the Emporia State Classic

Emporia, Kan. – Emily Bruin and Jaclyn Pasakarnis each drove in two runs to power the Maryville softball team to a pair of victories at the Emporia State Classic in Emporia, Kan. Bruin had two runs batted in while Olivia Jarvis claimed her first win of the year as the Saints defeated Northwest Missouri State 6-3 in the opener. Pasakarnis drove in the only two runs of the game to push Maryville to a 2-0 win over Emporia State in the nightcap.
 
Game One vs. Northwest Missouri State:
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the top of the third with an RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead. The Saints answered in the home half of the inning as Bruin earned a bases-loaded walk and Shaina Kmetz lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage after three innings of play. 
 
The Saints added a run in the fourth as Emily Frankenreiter doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pasakarnis to give Maryville a 3-1 lead. Northwest Missouri State cut the lead to a run by scoring on a fielder's choice in the fifth to make the score 3-2. 
 
Maryville put up another crooked number in the home half of the fifth as Alyssa Callans singled and moved to second on a stolen base. She scored on an Emily Bruin single up the middle to push the advantage to 4-2. Haylie Nelson came in to run for Bruin and scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-2. 
 
The Saints added an insurance run in the sixth frame as Frankenreiter opened the inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Samantha Hausl to make the score 6-2. The Bearcats scored a run in the top of the seventh but is as close as they would get as Callans earned her first save of the year by striking out a pair of batters.

Game Two vs. Emporia State:
The Saints scored the only runs of the game in the top of the third inning as Taylor Duff started the frame with a single to left and moved to second as Frankenreiter reached base on an error. The two scored as Pasakarnis singled to center field to put Maryville on top 2-0. 
 
The Hornets had a chance to break into the scoring column in the bottom of the fifth with runners at first and second and two outs, but Callans got out of the jam with a strike out to keep Emporia State off the scoreboard.
