Topeka, Kan. – The Maryville softball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Emporia State Classic Saturday afternoon at Washburn University Field. The Saints fell to Missouri Western State 4-3 in the opener and then lost to Washburn 5-2 in the nightcap.
Game One vs. Missouri Western State:
Jaclyn Pasakarnis jumped started the Saints offence in the top of the first with a two-run blast to left field to put Maryville ahead 2-0. The Griffons cut the lead in half with a run in the home half of the second to make the score 2-1.
Maryville extended the lead in the third as
Samantha Hausl lifted a home run to straight away center field to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage. Missouri Western evened the game in the bottom of the third with a pair of RBI doubles to put the score at 3-3.
After scoring a run in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead, the Griffons retired the next six Maryville batters to claim the come-from-behind victory.

Game Two vs. Washburn:
Washburn opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered in their half of the frame.
Taylor Shingler singled and advanced to second on a stolen base. After
Alyssa Callans was hit by a pitch, Shingler stole third and scored on a fielding error to even the game at 1-1.
The Ichabods grabbed the lead once again in the third with a run to make the score 2-1, but the Saints responded as
Emily Frankenreiter ripped a double down the left field line and scored on another error to even the contest at 2-2.
Washburn took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth to extend the advantage to 5-2. The Ichabods held the Saints to one hit over the last four innings to earn the win.
