Callans and Touchette Aid Saints In Split Against Parkside

St. Louis – Alyssa Callans drove in four runs and earned a win in the opener against Wisconsin Parkside with eight strikeouts as the Maryville softball team garnered a split with the Rangers at the new Maryville Athletic Complex Friday afternoon. The Saints needed an extra stanza to defeat Parkside 4-3 in eight innings in the opener while the Rangers scored five runs in the second frame to get a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

Game One:
Callans put the Saints on the scoreboard in the home half of the first inning as she ripped a triple to center field that scored Jaclyn Pasakarnis to put Maryville on top 1-0. Callans added to the lead in the third with an RBI double to once again score Pasakarnis and make the score 2-0.

The Rangers cut the lead in half in the fifth with an RBI single, but the Saints got the run back in the sixth as Taylor Duff scored on a throwing error to give Maryville a 3-1 advantage.

Parkside forced the extra frame in the seventh on a pair of RBI singles to even the contest at 3-3. In the top of the eighth, the Saints got out of a jam as the Rangers put runners on first and third with no outs. After a fly out, Pasakarnis cut the go-ahead run down at the plate to get the second out of the inning and Callans forced another fly out to keep the score tied.

Maryville scored the winning run in the home half of the inning as Lexi Touchette drove in Duff from second base with a single up the middle to give the Saints their first win at the new athletic complex.
