What Happened
In a closely contested first half, neither team led by more than single digits, and a late jumper by
Parker Long just before the buzzer pulled the Saints to within 35-34 at the break. McDaniel sank a short jumper to push the Saints ahead 36-35. Quincy hit a 3-pointer to jump ahead but
Chris Williams scored to tie the game at 38-38. QU edged ahead and a Gant jumper drew Maryville to 45-42 at the 17:03 mark.
Â
The Hawks went on a 10-2 run to build a double-digit lead. Buckets by Gant and McDaniel cut the Quincy lead down to 55-46 with 13:23 left to play. However, the visitors headed up from beyond the arc and hit three 3-pointers. The Saints were down 75-55 before making a big push.
Kamto Eze hammered down a dunk that ignited a 14-0 burst. After two free throws by Gant, Eze had another thunderous slam. The Saints kept driving to the basket to draw fouls and hit six at the line. McDaniel made a jumper as the Saints closed to 75-69 with 4:15 left. Maryville's defense kept Quincy off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes but the Hawks scored six straight points and held on for the win.
