The Maryville women's tennis team was narrowly edged out 4-3 by Missouri Western Saturday in St. Joseph, Mo. The Saints swept the doubles action but were unable to mount enough points in singles as the Griffons rallied for the win.

At the No. 1 doubles position,
Clara Bascunana and
Nicole Pafundi took their match 6-4.
Georgina Cupper and
Thamara Pinto battled to win their contest 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, while
Ashley Dowden and
Sandra Hinterberger cruised to a 6-1 win. Maryville took the 1-0 into singles.

Pafundi pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1, and Dowden emerged with a 7-6, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. However, Missouri Western took the other four singles points and won the match by just one point.

The Saints are next in action Wednesday, March 4, as they host Lake Superior State for the first matches at the new Maryville Athletic Complex. The contest will start at Noon on campus.
