The Maryville women's tennis team hosted its first match at the new Maryville Athletic Complex Wednesday and eased to a 6-1 triumph. The Saints won all three doubles matches to grab the early momentum.
Nicole Pafundi and Clara Bascunana rallied for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Thamara Pinto and Georgina Cupper posted a 6-2 victory at the second slot. Ashley Dowden and Sandra Hinterberger swept the No. 3 doubles match 6-0.
Pafundi and Bascunana took their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores, while Cupper won 12 of 13 games to claim the win at the fourth position. Hinterberger took the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-0, and Dowden claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Saints are next in action Friday, March 6, when they host Purdue Northwest at 1:45 p.m. The match will be played indoors at Sunset Tennis Center.
