Harrogate, Tenn. – The Maryville University softball team opened the 2020 season with a pair of late inning losses at Neely Field in Harrogate, Tenn. The Saints fell to West Virginia State 3-2 in the season opener and then dropped a 4-3 decision to Lincoln Memorial in eight innings to finish the day.
Game One vs. West Virginia State:
After falling behind to the Yellowjackets 2-0 early in the contest, the Saints cut the lead on half in the third inning as
Samantha Hausl ripped an RBI single to right center field to score
Taylor Shingler to make the score 2-1. Hausl evened the contest in the sixth inning as she drilled her first home run of the year to put the score at 2-2. The Yellowjackets walked off with the win in home half of the seventh with an RBI double to get the win.

Game Two vs. Lincoln Memorial:
After the teams played to a scoreless tie through seven innings, the offensive fireworks started in the eighth frame. The Saints scored the games first runs as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis smashed a three-run homer to straight away center field to put Maryville on top 3-0. The Railsplitters answered in their half of the frame as Lincoln Memorial tied the game with one out on a wild pitch and won the contest with a walk-off single to claim the extra inning victory.
