Devers and Martin Tally Four Times Apiece but Saints Tripped up 17-15 in Overtime

Despite four goals apiece from Addison Devers and Claire Martin, the Maryville women's lacrosse team was edged in overtime 17-15 at Alderson Broaddus Monday afternoon. The contest is the first of three straight for the Saints in West Virginia. The 15 goals are the second most in a game for the Saints in program history and the third time they have reached double figures in scoring this season.
 
What Happened
Lexi Taylor scored on the opening possession for the Saints and tacked on a second for a 2-1 lead. Addison Devers and Claire Martin slotted home goals as Maryville built a 4-1 edge. Brianna Bravo tallied her first goal of the season, and Devers completed a first-half hat trick for an 8-4 lead. The Saints extended the margin to 10-6 before the Battlers scored three times to cut the deficit to 10-9 at intermission.
 
Martin tallied two straight goals and Taylor finished her hat trick, as the Saints led 13-10 at the 20:42 mark of the second half. Alderson Broaddus scored but Haley Downs answered for the Saints for a 14-11 lead. However, the Battlers used a 3-0 run to tie the game at 14-14 with 2:37 remaining in the game. Martin fired in the go-ahead goal for a 15-14 edge with 1:23 to play. She won the ensuing draw control as the Saints ran took time off the clock. However, the Battlers gained control in the final seconds and scored to force overtime. In the extra session, Alderson Broaddus won the draw control and had shot but the attempt was saved. On their next possession, the Battlers scored with 1:02 left in the overtime session and sealed the victory with another score with 29 seconds remaining.
