Rolla, Mo. – In its return to league play, the Maryville volleyball team was defeated by host Missouri S&T in three sets. The Miners claimed the decision with scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 Friday evening.
Alyssa Koska hit .364 with nine kills to lead the attack, while
A.J. Hallemann paced the defense with 15 digs.

What Happened
The Saints fell behind as Missouri S&T scored five of the first six points of the game. The Saints inched back after a kill by
Taylor Keck and a block fomr Keck and
Grace Knadler. However, the Miners used a 5-0 burst to pull away in the opening set.

The hosts used an early run to take control of the second set. The Saints answered when
Hannah Scrum put down a kill and
Alyssa Koska tacked on a kill. A hitting error made it three straight points. The Miners still led before Maryville charged back on a 6-0 outburst. Mikael Kues started the run, and
Makenna Brauman followed with a kill. After back-to-back Miner errors, Kues served an ace, and Knadler and
Abbie Schnell had a block to pull the Saints to within three. However, Missouri S&T held off the charge by the Saints.

In the third, the Saints scored two straight on a kill by Kues and a Missouri S&T error to trim the gap to 3-2. The Miners used a 4-0 run until a block by Keck and Knadler and a kill by Knadler cut the deficit. The Saints scored three straight on a Miner error, a Schnell service ace and a Koska kill. Maryville was unable to cut the gap below five as Missouri S&T closed out the match.
