Allendale, Mich. – The Maryville women's basketball team was looking for a sweep of its two games in Michigan but a cold-shooting outing doomed the Saints. Maryville held Grand Valley State to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field but dropped a 62-32 decision Saturday afternoon. Taylor Kirby topped the Saints with 12 points, while Maddy Meehan had team highs of five rebounds and three steals.
 
What Happened:
The Saints got off to a slow start but their defense kept the Lakers from pulling away in the first quarter and were only down by seven points after 10 minutes. Meehan scored the first bucket of the second quarter before GVSU built a double-digit lead. Kirby converted a layup, and Antoinette Mussorici drained a 3-pointer to bring the Saints to within 19-12. Kirby sank another layup but the Lakers scored the last eight points of the quarter to build a 30-14 advantage at the break.
 
Hunter Stidham nailed a 3-pointer early in the third quarter but the Saints only were able to manage one more field goal the next seven minutes as GVSU extended its margin. Kirby sank back-to-back buckets for Maryville to open the fourth but could not bring the margin back under 20 the rest of the way.

What's Next?
The Saints are in a tournament in Minnesota and play at host Southwest Minnesota State Friday, Nov. 19. Maryville then plays Minot State the next day.
