Springfield, Ill. – The Maryville University men's soccer team fell to the University of Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Run of Play – The first half called goalkeeper
Nick Hemann into action seven times against the Prairie Stars. In the fourth minute, the junior made back-to-back saves from pointblank range to keep UIS off the scoreboard. The Saints peppered five shots and two on frame with the majority of their chances being blocked. The matchup went into the half tied 0-0.

st minute,
JD Sohn brought a ball down in the box and put a shot on frame that the 'keeper saved, but freshman
Mason Crew was there for the rebound attempt and put the Saints up 1-0. UIS tied the match in the 64
th minute with a rip from outside the box. Maryville had two prime opportunities in the 67
th minute from
Cedric Sengl and
Jimmy Doherty, but both shots found a post and the Prairie Stars were able to clear. The match went to overtime tied 1-1.

The Prairie Stars used a breakaway early in the first overtime period to chip the golden goal past the Saints and take the contest by a score of 2-1.
