St. Louis - At the season-opening Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open,
Taylor Jokerst won the 141 weight class to highlight the efforts by the Maryville wrestling team. The tournament was held at Westminster Christian Academy.

Jokerst posted a fall to start his 141 day in 4:53, and followed up with a 7-2 decision. He recorded a 7-5 victory in the semis to reach the championship. Jokerst won at the 6:21 mark due to an injury to his Central Missouri foe to claim the title.

Austin Wadlow battled through to reach the consolation finals before dropping his final match of the day. In the 149 weight class,
Tyler Stegall had an SV-1 win then tacked on a 5-2 victory in the quarterfinals. In the semis, he battled to a 6-5 win before taking on No. 10 ranked Logan Bailey of UIndy. Bailey prevailed over Stegall in the finals.

Michael Peters won two matches in the consolation bracket to reach the quarterfinals before seeing his day come to an end.
Bret Heil won his 174 opening match by fall in just 1:22 but fell into the back draw. He posted a 12-2 major in his first consolation match until he was eliminated from the tournament.

Chase Stegall posted a 10-2 major in his first bout at 197, and followed up by shutting out his opponent 7-0 to reach the championship semis. After he was edged in sudden victory, he bounced back to win his consolation semi by a 5-3 count. Stegall was edged out 3-2 in the third-place match. Also at 197,
Ryan Herman won his opener 13-6 before dropping into the consolation side. He recorded back-to-back falls but suffered a loss to his teammate Stegall in the consolation semifinals.
