Four Saints Reach Double Figures in 87-84 Victory over McKendree

Bolstered by three career highs, the Maryville women's basketball team beat McKendree 87-84 Thursday evening in Moloney Arena. Antoinette Mussorici tallied 24 points to lead the Saints. Rylee Mulvaney and Donnetta Colbert reached career bests with 19 and 14 points, respectively. Olivia Kastens also had a career-high 12 points.
 
What Happened
The Saints had their best scoring quarter of the season as they jumped to a 30-23 lead after 10 minutes. Holding a 12-10 edge, the Saints scored eight straight to grab a double-digit lead. Carsyn Fearday's layup handed Maryville its biggest lead of the night at 29-17. McKendree inched back in the second and eventually took a 45-43 lead. Mulvaney had a 3-point play, and Kastens' layup was good for a 48-45 lead. The Saints settled for a 49-47 margin at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, the Bearcats again edged in front 59-58 but the Saints retook the lead with a 6-0 run. Maddy Meehan hit two free throws, Mussorici and Kastens had back-to-back layups for a 64-59 margin. The Bearcats closed to within one after 30 minutes. McKendree led 76-75 until Meehan scores inside for a 77-76 lead. Mulvaney drained a 3-pointer for a four-point margin. Mussorici got a three to settle in for an 83-78 advantage with 1:23 left. The Bearcats closed to within two at 83-81 before the Saints sank three free throws. McKendree hit one late 3-pointer to get to within two but Mussorici made one free throw. The Bearcats desperation 3-pointer misfired as the Saints held on for the victory.

Fearday grabbed seven rebounds, while Mussorici added seven assists and five steals to her efforts. The Saints shot 51.6 percent from the field.
