The Maryville women's tennis team started its 2021 season with a 4-3 victory over Washington University in St. Louis Sunday. The match was held at the Sunset Tennis Center.
 
The Saints rallied to win the doubles point by claiming the No. 2 match 7-5 by Emily Orlove and Carolina Velazquez. Ashley Dowden and Maria Gouveia took their match at No. 3 by a 6-3 score.
 
In singles action, Georgina Cupper was victorious at No. 2 in a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision, while Velazquez won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3. Dowden took her contest at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-2 score.
 
The Saints (1-0) are next in action at Quincy, Friday, Feb. 26.
