St. Louis – The Maryville softball team scattered 18 hits on the afternoon to earn a split with Quincy Saturday afternoon at the Maryville Athletic Complex. The Saints pounded out 10 hits in the opener to earn a 5-1 victory over the Hawks. Quincy responded in the nightcap with a 2-1 win over Maryville to earn the spilt.
Game One:
After the Hawks plated a run in the top of the first, the Saints answered in the home half of the frame. Kim DeBold drove in
Taylor Shingler from second base with a single down the right field line to even the score at 1-1.
Alyssa Callans helped her own cause in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple into the gap in right center to give the Saints a 2-1 advantage.
Maryville added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as
DJ Aaron-Holman and
McKenna McCoy each hit into fielder choices to drive in two runs and McCoy scored on a throwing error after stealing third to make the score 5-1. The Saints put down the Hawks in order in the seventh to earn its first conference win of the season.

Game Two:
Quincy opened the scoring in the top of the third as they pulled off a double steal to score a run as it gave them a 1-0 lead. The Hawks added to the advantage in the fourth with an RBI single to extend the score to 2-0.
The Saints cut the Quincy lead in half in the fifth as Shingler ripped a triple to the left field wall to score
Hannah Tolley as it put Maryville to within a run at 2-1. Maryville had an opportunity in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Quincy was able to turn inning ending double plays in each frame to secure the win.
