St. Louis –
Taylor Shingler tied a school record with five stolen bases in the nightcap to help the Maryville softball team earn a split with Truman State Tuesday afternoon at the Maryville Athletic Complex. The Saints saw a late inning comeback fall short as the Bulldogs took the opener, 5-3. The Maryville offense came alive in the nightcap with 14 hits as the Saints defeated Truman State 8-0 in six innings.
Game One:
After a quiet first two innings, the Bulldogs cracked the scoreboard with a double to the left center wall to score a run from second and take a 1-0 lead. Truman State added to the advantage in the top of the fourth as they scored four runs on a pair of hits to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Saints made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh as
Taylor Shingler and
Hannah Tolley each scored on throwing errors while
McKenna McCoy drove in a run with a single to make the score 5-3. The Bulldogs were able to record the final out to claim the opening game victory.

Game Two:
The Saints opened the scoring in the home half of the first as Shingler hit a one out single and stole second base while
Alyssa Callans drew a walk. Shingler came home on a throwing error and Callans scored on a
Kim Debold triple to give Maryville a 2-0 lead.
DJ Aaron-Holman made the score 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Debold to make the score 3-0.
Maryville offense continued to produce as Tolley drove in a run in the fourth to make the score 4-0. The Saints added three runs in the fifth frame as
Melanie Nelson,
Katelynn Charlton, and McCoy all drove in runs to put Maryville on top 7-0. The Saints tallied the final run of the day in the sixth inning as Shingler scored on a wild pitch to give Maryville a split for the day. Callans earned her fourth win of the year in tossing a three hitter with nine strikeouts in the game.
