Alyssa Callans drove in three runs while
Reagan Smith allowed three hits in the nightcap to help the Maryville softball team earn a split with William Jewell Monday afternoon at Cardinal Field in Liberty, Mo. The Saints dropped the opener to the Cardinals 2-1 and bounced back in the second game of the day to defeat William Jewell 4-0.
Game One:
The Cardinals took advantage of a pair of errors to grab an early 1-0 in the second inning. After a pitcher's duel over the middle innings,
Katelynn Charlton tied the game in the top of the sixth with a solo blast to make the score 1-1. William Jewell regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth as the Cardinals pushed across a run on a groundout to take a 2-1 advantage. Maryville put a runner at first in the seventh, but the Cardinals were able to get the final two out of the game to secure the win.

Game Two:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the third inning as Callans drove in a run with a single to right center to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. Callans continued to swing a hot bat as she hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0. The Saints added an insurance run in the frame as Callans scored on a fielding error to make the score 4-0.
Smith went the distance allowing three hits while striking out three batters to earn her first win of the season.
