St. Louis – The Maryville softball team secured two victories against Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon at the Maryville Athletic Complex. The first game was a slugfest for the Saints as they drove in 11 runs on 12 hits to shutout the Bearcats 11-0 in five innings. The nightcap had no shortage of runs with
Carly Nolde leading the team with three hits as the Saints secured the win, 9-1.
Game One:
The Saints started quick, putting up 10 runs in the first inning.
Taylor Shingler started the offensive explosion with an infield single.
Melanie Nelson put down a bunt and reached on a fielding error, moving Shingler to third.
Alyssa Callans drove both runners in with single to center field.
McKenna McCoy drove in Callans and
Hannah Tolley with another single to center field.
Lexi Touchette jumped in on the fun with an RBI single up the middle to bring home McCoy. Nolde and
DJ Aaron-Holman joined the action with RBI singles to extend the Saints lead. Shingler, Nelson, and
Katelynn Charlton drove in the remaining runs to make it a 10-0 Saints lead after one inning.
Callans tossed three perfect innings and gave way to
Kelsie Hardester to finish up the shutout. The Saints added one more run in the third frame as the Saints secured the five-inning victory

Reagan Smith kept the second game of the day scoreless after Southwest Baptist loaded the bases quickly in the second inning. Smith struck out one and forced a lineout to get out of the jam.
The Saints found a run in the bottom half of the second after Tolley hustled for an infield single.
Taylor Duff then drove her in with a deep double to left field. The Bearcats answered in the top of third with a run of their own to make it a 1-1 ballgame
Maryville broke the game open in the home half of the third as the Saints started the inning with four straight singles to take a 2-1 lead. Charlton came up with the bases loaded and pushed Shingler across home plate with a bunt to extend the lead to 3-1. Tolley joined the action with a single to center, driving in Callans and Nelson.
Kiersten Nixon took advantage of the pinch-hit opportunity and brought in
Kylie Swinney with a sacrifice fly to left field, making it a 6-1 lead for the Saints.
Nelson added a run in the fourth by driving in pinch runner
Erin Sammelmann with an infield single. Duff notched another RBI in the fifth inning with a single to center field and Nolde hammered a double off of the top of the fence, bringing home pinch runner
Brooklyn Moore for the five-inning victory, 9-1.
