St. Charles, Mo. – In a pair of low scoring affairs, the Maryville softball team was able to earn a doubleheader split with Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
Alyssa Callans tossed a five hitter to aid the Saints in a 2-1 win in the opener while the Lions allowed only four hits in a 2-0 victory over Maryville in the nightcap.
Game One:
The opener started out as a pitcher's duel through the first four innings as
Alyssa Callans limited the Lions to two hits. The Saints cracked the scoreboard in the fifth as
Kim DeBold drove in a run with a single up the middle to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Maryville added to the lead in the top of the seventh as the Saints hit three consecutive singles to open the inning with
Melanie Nelson driving in
Caitlin Rodriguez to extend the lead to 2-0. The Lions rallied in the home half of the seventh as Lindenwood scored a run and had the tying run at third base, but Callans forced a pair of pop ups to end the uprising and claim her ninth win of the year.

Game Two:
The Lions grabbed the early lead in the first with a run in the bottom of the first and added another run in the third to take a 2-0 lead over the Saints. Maryville attempted to rallied in the seventh as DeBold ripped a single to right field with one out, but Lindenwood was able to get a fly out and a strick out to end the game and savage a split for the day.
