Normandy, Mo.– The Maryville softball team used a pair of late-inning rallies to claim a doubleheader sweep of the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon at UMSL Softball Field in Normandy, Mo. The Saints needed to work overtime in the opener to defeat the Tritons 2-1 in nine innings. Maryville then scored the winning run in the seventh inning to earn a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
Game One:
The Saints cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the third as
Katelynn Charlton led off the frame with a solo shot over the center field fence to give Maryville an early 1-0 lead. The Tritons tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a one out home run to even the score at 1-1.
The Saints regained the lead in the top of the ninth as
McKenna McCoy reached base on an error and scored on another UMSL miscue to put Maryville on top 2-1. The is all that Maryville needed as
Alyssa Callans retired three of the last four Tritons batters in the home half of the inning to earn her 10
th win of the season.

Game Two:
The Tritons jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a run to take an early 1-0 advantage. Callans evened the game in the fourth inning with her fourth home run of the year to make the score 1-1. UMSL regained the lead in the home half of the frame with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to take a 2-1 lead.
The Saints rallied again in the fifth as
Taylor Duff started the inning with a double and scored on a
Kylie Swinney single to left to even the contest at 2-2. Maryville grabbed the lead for the first time in the seventh inning as Swinney drove in a run on a fielder's choice to give the Saints a 3-2 advantage.
