Lewis Pulls Away Late to Defeat Saints Women's Lacrosse

Romeoville, Ill. - Katie Von Mecklenburg and Jessie Hynes tallied two goals apiece to lead the Maryville women's lacrosse team but Lewis pulled away late for a 14-8 win. Hynes finished with a team-high four points on two goals and two assists to guide the offense.
 
What Happened
Von Mecklenburg scored four minutes into the game to give the Saints the early lead. Lewis took the lead with five straight goals before Julia Banfield cut the deficit down to 5-2. The Flyers answered with a score but Haley Downs scored on a free-position shot to bring Maryville to 6-3. Lexi Taylor took advantage of another free-position attempt and her goal chopped the Flyers lead down to 6-4 at halftime.
 
Hynes opened the scoring in the second half as the Saints extended their run to 3-0 and drew them to within 6-5. Skyler Jolie scored at the 17:43 mark to bring Maryville back to 8-6. However, the Flyers scored the next three goals to build a cushion. Von Mecklenburg scored with four minutes to play, and Hynes found the back of the net in the final minute but the Saints could not get any closer.
