Lebanon, Ill. – The Maryville women's soccer team gave up a pair of second half goals to top seeded McKendree as the Bearcats eliminated the No. 8 seed Saints from the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship 2-0 Monday evening at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill.
What Happened – After a scoreless first half that saw the Saints hold a slim 3-2 advantage in shots, the Bearcats put the first goal on the scoreboard on the scoreboard in the 63
rd minute with a shot the found the upper right corner of the goal to put McKendree ahead 1-0. The Bearcats added an insurance goal in the 84
thminute to make the score 2-0. The Saints had an opportunity to cut the lead in half in the 80
th minute as
Molly Krispin launched a shot that went over the top of the goal and
Stacie Muehling just missed a shot that the McKendree goalkeeper was able to knock out of bounds.
Inside the Numbers – The Bearcats finished the contest with an 11-9 edge in shots with five of those being on frame. Krispin led the way for the Maryville attack with four shots while Muehling had a pair of attempts.
