St. Louis - In a tight contest Friday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center, the Maryville women's tennis team was narrowly felled by a 4-3 scoreline against McKendree.

The Saints won the top doubles match 6-4 via
Emily Orlove and
Carolina Velazquez.
Ashley Dowden and
Maria Gouveia prevailed in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-5) to give Maryville the 1-0 lead after doubles.

In singles action, Dowden won at No. 5 singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Gouveia closed out her match at the sixth singles slot by a 6-4, 6-3 count. The Bearcats took the remaining four singles matches to rally for the win.

The Saints host their final home match of the season when Illinois Springfield visits. The contest is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. but may be delayed due to an inclement weather forecast.
