St. Louis - In the final match of the regular season, the Maryville women's tennis used its strength in singles play to power to a 5-2 triumph over Illinois Springfield Sunday morning at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
 
After the Prairie Stars won the team point for doubles, the Saints rallied in individual action. UIS won at the No. 1 spot, but the Saints claimed the remaining points. Georgina Cupper rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2, while Carolina Valezquez took a 6-3, 7-6 decision at No. 3. Emily Orlove battled for a7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory. Ashley Dowden and Maria Gouveia both won via walkovers.
 
The Saints improve to 7-3 overall, 5-3 in the GLVC. Maryville is next in action at the GLVC Championships April 30-May 2 at the Oremus Tennis Complex in Romeoville, Ill.
