Kim DeBold drove in four runs in the opener to propel the Maryville University softball team to a doubleheader split against No. 5 Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at Baumgartner Field in Indianapolis. The Saints used a big second inning to claim the first game of the day 5-3. The Greyhounds hit three home runs to claim a 4-2 win over the Saints in the nightcap. The win in the opener was the first time that Maryville has defeated a Top 25 team since 2016.
Game One:
The Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning as they scored on a three-run homer to grab an early 3-0 lead. The Saints answered in the top of the second as
Taylor Shingler drew a bases loaded walk to score a run while DeBold ripped a base clearing double to give Maryville a 4-3 advantage.
After the game turned into a pitcher's duel in the middle innings, the Saints added a run in the top of the sixth as DeBold lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score
Tori Forbeck to make the score 5-3. UIndy had an opportunity in the bottom of the seventh as the Greyhounds opened the inning with a double and a single to put runners at first and second with no outs.
Olivia Jarvis forced a pair of fly outs and a groundout to stop the uprising and earn her first win of the year.

Game Two:
Alyssa Callans gave the Saints an early advantage with a two-run blast over the left wall to stake Maryville to a 2-0 lead. The Greyhounds responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot of their own to even the game at 2-2. UIndy grabbed the lead in the second with a solo blast to take a 3-2 lead.
The Greyhounds tacked on another run in the home half of the fourth with their third home run of the game to extend the lead to 4-2. Maryville attempted to rally in the seventh as
Melanie Nelson started the inning by reaching base on an error and she moved to third on a DeBold single to put runners at the corners with one out. The Greyhounds were able to get the final two outs to gain the win and a split for the day.
