Romeoville, Ill. – The Maryville softball team wrapped up the regular season by earning a split with Lewis Sunday afternoon at Lewis Softball Field in Romeoville, Ill. The Saints used a big fifth inning to secure a 6-3 win in the opener while the Flyers scored nine times over the final three innings to defeat Maryville 9-0 in six innings in the nightcap.
Game One:
The Saints struck first in the opening inning of the game as
Taylor Shingler started the affair with a single and scored on an
Alyssa Callans single to put Maryville on top 1-0. The score remained that way until the top of the fifth as the Saints scored five runs on six hits to extend the lead to 6-0.
Carly Nolde started the scoring with an RBI double while
McKenna McCoy,
Melanie Nelson, Shingler, and
Kim DeBold all drove in runs with singles to give Maryville the advantage. Lewis scored runs in the last three innings to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Saints were able to stop the rally in the seventh to earn the win.

Game Two:
After three innings of scoreless softball, the Flyers gained control of the game as they scored four runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Lewis added three more runs in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth to claim the doubleheader split.
The Flyer pitching staff held the Saints to only one hit as Shingler opened the nightcap with a triple while Maryville was able to draw four walks in the loss.
