Saints Use Big Innings to Defeat No. 10 Lindenwood on Senior Day

St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team took down No. 10 Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints smacked 11 hits and tallied 10 runs to cap off Senior Day festivities and earned the series split with a 10-3 victory.   
 
Game One: 
The Saints wasted no time as Alex Hoff smoked a leadoff homerun to straightaway centerfield, giving Maryville an early 1-0 lead. Three walks later, Elias Stevens dropped a double down the right field line to score Dominic Connolly and Joey Polak, creating a 3-0 Maryville lead. Michael Gould continued the offensive outburst with a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield that drove in Ben Hopkins and extended the Saints lead to 4-0. 
 
The Lions got one back in the top of the second inning to make it a 4-1 ballgame. The Saints matched the run in the bottom half of the inning when Connolly came around to score to make it 5-1. 
 
Lindenwood made it a 5-2 contest with a single run in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Polak tattooed a ball over the centerfield fence, his 12th homerun of the season, to extend the Saints lead to 7-2. 
 
In the top of the sixth inning, the Lions notched a run to reduce the deficit to 7-3. Stevens answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to right field. The catcher's seventh homerun of the year extended the Saints lead to 8-3. Nick Hofmann made it 9-3, three batters later with an RBI triple that drove in Austin Tapella all the way from first. 
 
 Stevens notched his fourth RBI of the day in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-3 in favor of the Saints. That was all Pat Evers club would need as they secured the 10-3 victory.
