Mirza Hasecic both notched two goals in the Maryville University men's soccer win Saturday night. The Saints exploded for five goals and took down the Missouri Baptist Spartans in the second exhibition contest of the fall by a score of 5-3. Â

The Run of Play – The Saints struck first in the 24
th minute when leading goal scorer from the Spring, Hasecic, curled a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box past the Spartans goalkeeper. Missouri Baptist quickly equalized two minutes later, making it a 1-1 ballgame.

The tie lasted all of 90 seconds before Doherty headed in his first goal as a Saint off a
Cedric Sengl free kick in the 27
th minute, giving Maryville a 2-1 lead. Missouri Baptist answered in the 31
st minute with a close-range strike to tie the game, 2-2.

In the 44
th minute,
Carter Reiss floated a perfectly weighted ball to the back post for Doherty to hit a one-timer past the keeper and give the Saints a 3-2 lead before the halftime break.

Maryville picked up right where they left off in the 46
th minute when Sengl whipped another free kick into the box, this time finding the head of
Dom Riggio and giving
David Korn's team a commanding 4-2 lead.

The Saints finished off the Spartans in the 80
th minute when a scramble broke out in front of the goal and Hasecic poked it in to make the score 5-2. Missouri Baptist added a goal in the 89
th minute, but Maryville came out on top, 5-3.

Inside the Numbers – Maryville unloaded 21 shots on the game, 12 of which were on frame.

Next Up – The Saints wrap up exhibition play on Saturday, Aug. 28 against Tiffin University at home. The contest against the Dragons will be at Maryville Field at 5:00 p.m.
