Saints Close Out Exhibition Play with 2-2 Draw

St. Louis, Mo. – The Maryville University men's soccer team fought to a 2-2 draw with Tiffin University Saturday at Maryville Field. Freshman Mason Crew and sophomore Victor DeGiorgio found the scoresheet in the final exhibition contest of the fall.

The Run of Play – The home team found the back of the net first with a 37th minute rocket courtesy of freshman Mason Crew. The ball was curled in from the left side by Dom Riggio and laid off by Bryce Dickerson right outside of the six-yard box for Crew to hammer home. The Dragons equalized in the 41st minute and the teams went into the half tied 2-2.

DeGiorgio broke the tie in the 62nd minute by capitalizing on a second-chance opportunity from five yards out to make the score 2-1.

Tiffin leveled the match in the 81st minute and later forced the Saints into a goal-line stand with just seconds remaining. Defender Andrew Schulz kept the final effort by the Dragons out of the goal as time expired as the match ended 2-2.

Inside the Numbers – Maryville sprayed 17 shots in the contest and put seven shots on frame.

Next Up – The Saints open the regular season with a home match on Friday, Sept. 3, against Lynn University. The contest versus the Fighting Knights will be kickoff at 5 p.m.
