Frostburg, Md. – Playing the first of two contests at Frostburg State, the Maryville field hockey team challenged No. 4 Millersville but lost a 5-0 decision Sunday afternoon in Maryland. Two goals in the second period proved too much over overcome for the Saints.

Millersville pressed forward early in the game and put three shots on goal but Saints goalie
Liz Bierhals turned all the attempts aside. The score remained scoreless after the first quarter. The Marauders finally broke through the Maryville defense early in the second quarter. Millersville was awarded a penalty stroke attempt late in the second and converted for a 2-0 edge.

The Saints earned a penalty corner midway through the third quarter but
Delanie Winkelmann's shot was saved. The Marauders earned a penalty corner at the end of the period and converted with the clock stopped for a 3-0 lead. The Saints had another shot on goal in the fourth but Millersville scored late for the final margin. Bierhals made 12 saves on the day for the Saints.

The Saints were unable to crack the scoreboard against the fourth-ranked team in the country and dropped to 2-7 on the season. Millersville improved to 8-1 this year. Maryville takes on host squad Frostburg State Monday at 10 a.m. (CT) in a rematch of the first Saints contest of the season.
