East Peoria, Ill. - In its first appearance in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament, No. 8 Maryville challenged No. 1 seed Quincy to the end but just fell short 3-1 Thursday in East Peoria, Ill. The Hawks won by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18.
Caroline Glastetter finished with 15 kills, while
Ella Brinkmann recorded a double-double on 11 kills and a match-high 22 digs.
Makenna Brauman added a season-high 13 kills. The Saints end the most successful season of the Division II era with 17 victories.

Quincy Recap
In the first set, the Saints trailed 13-10 but responded with a 4-0 run. Brauman and Glastetter alternated kills that pushed the Saints on top 14-13. Another Glastetter kill tied the score at 15-15, but the Hawks scored six of the next seven points to take the set.

Set two saw Quincy leading 15-13 but Brinkmann had a kill and a QU error tied the score. Brinkmann served an ace for a 16-15 edge. The Saints stayed in front and were up 19-17 on a hitting error by the Hawks. However, Quincy scored four straight points. The Saints clawed back with kills by
Grace Graham and Brinkmann to get to within 22-21 before the Hawks scored three straight to end it.

Grace Knadler put down a kill to give Maryville a 14-13 lead, and
Taylor Hasbrook added an ace. QU scored to cut the Saints advantage to 15-14. Maryville reeled off five straight points to take command. Glastetter's kill started the burst, and a Brinkmann termination built a 20-14 lead. Glastetter's finish gave the Saints the 25-19 win.

After falling behind in the fourth set 10-5, the Saints reeled off three straight points. Maryville would not let Quincy pull away and the Saints rallied to tie the score at 14-14 on a Brauman kill. The score was knotted two more times but QU used a 5-1 run to take a 21-17 advantage. Brauman pounded down another kill to pull the Saints to within 21-18 but that would prove to be as close as Maryville got as the top-seeded Hawks held on for the win.

Olivia Klump added 21 digs, while Hasbrook recorded 15 digs and three aces.
Abbie Schnell also notched a double-double on 22 assists and 10 digs. The Saints had 10 service aces to just four for Quincy.
