ALLENDALE, Mich. – A historic Maryville University women's soccer season came to a close on Sunday with a 1-0 loss to Grand Valley State University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2022 season saw the Saints win the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in program history, the first game in the NCAA Tournament, and record the first unbeaten GLVC record at 6-0-6. Additionally, they set a school Division II-era record for wins (12), the most since a 13-win campaign in 2006.
The Lakers outshot the Saints 5-2 in the first half, forcing goalkeeper Katie Nash to make a save at 21:10. They found the back of the net at 31:16 after earning a corner kick moments earlier.
In the second half, Maryville had a few scoring chances to tie the game including a pair of corner kicks and a dangerous free kick chance from Lexi Gentry, but was ultimately kept off the scoreboard by the GVSU defense.
The Saints end their 2022 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 12-3-6 and hope to continue the momentum in 2023.
