Maryville to Host Lewis University for GLVC Championship on Sunday

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University men's soccer will take on second-seeded Lewis University on Sunday, Nov. 6, for the Great Lake Valley Conference Tournament Championship. The Saints appear in their second championship game in three years, winning the tournament during the 2020-21 season after advancing 5-3 in penalty kicks over the University of Indianapolis on April, 25, 2021.

Maryville entered the GLVC Championship tournament as the first seed after winning its first regular season championship in program history. They opened the tournament at home against Missouri S&T, erasing a two-goal deficit in the final 30 minutes before eventually advancing in PKs. On Friday, the Saints continued their tournament run after downing the University of Illinois Springfield 4-0 on the strength of three first-half goals.

Lewis University appears in its first GLVC Championship since 2007 and their 16th in program history. The Flyers took down seventh-seeded Truman State University at home in the GLVC Quarterfinals before making their way to St. Louis for a 2-1 comeback win over Indianapolis in the semifinals.

The last time the Saints and the Flyers met was back on Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Maryville Soccer Field. Both teams were pitching a shutout through nearly 80 minutes before Tim Smith and Justin Darlage scored to end it in a 1-1 draw.

The GLVC Men's Soccer Championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Maryville Soccer Field in St. Louis, Mo. Admission will be $10 for adults to enter and free for all Maryville students with their student IDs. Children under the age of five can enter for free.
