St. Louis – Despite a double-double from
Taylor Kirby, the Maryville women's basketball team had its two-game winning streak end in a 70-55 decision at Southern Indiana. Kirby had 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to pace the Saints.
Carsyn Fearday and
Antoinette Mussorici both finished with 11 points apiece. The Maryville defense held USI to 31.5 percent shooting.

What Happened:
Southern Indiana scored the first eight points of the game before
Olivia Kastens got the Saints on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer. Maryville closed to 13-7 on a Mussorici layup before USI scored eight of the last 10 points of the quarter.

The Saints were down 21-10 but embarked on a 13-4 run to get back into the game. After five straight points, USI made a jumper but Mussorici and Kastens sank consecutive triples to close the gap to 25-23. However, the Screaming Eagles scored nine straight points to take a 37-25 lead at halftime.

The Saints converted three of the opening four baskets of the third quarter to get within 40-31. USI pushed its advantage back to double-digits with six straight points. Maryville made a charge by tallying seven of eight points but USI steadied itself for a 53-40 lead. The Saints got as close as 61-52 with just under three minutes left in the game but would not get closer.
