Romeoville, Ill. – Despite a season-high 19 points from
Haidyn Pitsch, the Maryville women's basketball team was eliminated from the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament by Lewis in a 74-62 decision.
Antoinette Mussorici added 18 points, while
Maddy Meehan narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

What Happened:
The Saints took a 13-11 lead after one on a Mussorici layup, and a Pitsch 3-pointer built a 16-11 edge to open the second. Lewis closed to 16-15 but Maryville reeled off seven straight points.
Carsyn Fearday scored on a layup, Pitsch drilled a 3-pointer, and Meehan's layup staked the Saints to a 23-15 advantage with five minutes left before halftime. The Flyers tied the game at 32-all but Meehan scored back-to-back buckets to give Maryville a 36-32 lead at the break.

The score was still close in the third, and
Carsyn Fearday's two free throws put the Saints ahead 41-40. Lewis went on a 7-1 run to go back on top but Mussorici hit a late triple to cut Lewis' lead to 53-50 after the third quarter. The Flyers stretched their lead to double digits before the Saints made one late run. Pitsch sandwiched two buckets around a layup by Fearday to bring the Saints to 68-62 with 2:21 left. However, the Flyers sank four straight free throws to hold off the Maryville rally.
